Before I go...

These past couple of months I've been lost in another world. I finally gave in to my curiosity and started reading the Twilight Saga. I won't go into detail, but I'll just say that I am a complete Twifan now. Scrapbooking fell on the back burner for awhile.

But I do have some pages to upload before I take off for summer vacation. Not summer related, rather an idea for the next challenge in September. These are actually for my own memories album since they are photos of my own Grandparents.

But how about getting some shots of the kids and grandparents this summer, and making a page to present to the grandparents in September.

My parents are getting up there in years and I know they would love to have a page of them and all their grandkids. So that will be my goal photo for this summer.

最近"トワイライト"に夢中になってしまってスクラップが出来なかったけど、少数のページがやっと作れました。祖父祖母ページです。自分のメモリーアルバムのために作りました。一緒にいるの写真がなくてちょっと寂しかったです。

夏休み間に自分の親と孫全員の写真を撮る事を頑張ります。9月にInternational Grandparents Dayまでにページを作ってあげると思います。皆様もどうですか？ご両親とお子様の写真ありますか？きっと喜ぶでしょうか。

Overdue lesson

I've tried to sit down several times and write out a good introduction to digital scrapbooking for my Japanese friends. But alas, my Japanese skills aren't quite that good. It's quite technical. So instead of me explaining it all, I found some basic sites on the web that explain it in perfect Japanese! (wink)

Basically, you need a computer with plenty of memory. You need your photos in a digital format. You need a photo editing software. (I use Adobe Photoshop Elements.) And you need some digital scrapbook "papers" and "accents" that you can purchase from a digital shop (see some of my favorite shops in my Love 2 Shop links) or download for free (Ikea Goddess always has some wonderful links).

It seems to me, and I may be wrong about this, that digital scrapbooking just isn't popular in Japan. In my opinion, most Japanese women enjoy the process and atmosphere of a handmade page more. In some ways I agree. Handmade feels special. Even so, I am still a digiscrapper at heart. I love the ease of digital supplies all being stored away in my hard drive. For me, digital is easier.

But even if you prefer to handmake your pages, don't forget that digital supplies can be used in
handmade pages as well. You can print out papers and accents in any size you need, then add it to your handmade page. In fact, that is exactly how I first started digital scrapbooking.

遅くなりました

何回もデイジタルスクラップブッキングへ紹介を書いてみても、やはり私の日本語力は足りないのです。かなり専門語ですので。その代わりに他のサイトをすすめます。

とにかく、必要なのは：十分メモリーがあるのパソコン、デイジタル写真、グラフィック編集ソフト（私はアドビーフォトショップエレメンツを使っている）、デイジタル用紙や飾り（オンラインデイジタルショップで買うか、無料でダウンロードも出来ます。大好きなデイジタルショップは Love 2 Shop のリンクにあります。それとも Ikea Goddess はいつも素敵な無料ダウンロードリンクがたくさんあります。）

ただ私の意見ですが、日本ではデイジタルスクラップブッキングはあんまり流行っていないと思います。まだ手作りスクラップほうが人気みたいです。やっぱり手作りの気持ちがいいし、楽しいですね。手作りのほうが特別かもしれない。なのに、私はまだデイジタルがいいです。

手作りのほうが気に入っても、デイジタルスクラップ材料は手作りページにも使えます。台紙やページアクセントを必要なサイズに印刷しハンドメードページに加える。そんな風に私はデイジタルスクラップ世界に入りました。

June & July Crop Schedule

June 16: Beginner Scrappers Since its Father's Day this month why not make a page just for him? It could be of all your family, or just Father and Children. If you think you'll want to put it in a frame for him, please prepare and bring the frame to the crop. Then its much easier to make the page the right size and match colors, etc. If you're not interested in making a Father's Day page, any theme is okay.

June 23: Advanced Scrappers Let's make a Father & child page to match the Mother & child page we just finished! If possible, try to get a photo of your husband at a young age. Then find a photo of your child at around that same age. If this challenge doesn't tickle your fancy, then how about just a Father's Day page for him? Of course any other theme is also okay!

June 30: Open scrap (No new challenge or lesson. Any page theme is okay.)

July 7: Open scrap (No new challenge or lesson. Any page theme is okay.) This will be the last crop before summer vacation. New crops will start up again in September.

6月16日（火）：初心者 今月は父の日ですから、ご主人にプレゼントページを作ってみませんか？全員家族の写真やお子さんとパパだけの写真でも。フレームに入れるつもりなら、前にフレームを準備し、持って来て下さい。そうするとフレームに入れるか、色に合うのか確認が出来ます。もちろん他のテーマでも可能です。

6月23日（火）：上級者 5月の Mother & Child テーマに合わせ、Father & Child　ページを作ってみましょう！ご主人の子供頃写真があれば、お子さんの同じ歳写真のページ。すでに作っている方、写真が無い方は父の日のプレゼントでも（遅くなるけど。。。）、他のテーマでも可能です。

6月30日（火）：オープンスクラップ (テーマは何でも大丈夫です。)

7月7日（火）：オープンスクラップ (テーマは何でも大丈夫です。)　この日は夏休みの前に最後のクロップになります。次回は9月になります。

定員は6人になります。参加ご希望の方はお連絡下さい。

Digital Scrappin'

Most of you know that I am predominantly a digital scrapper. I started out scrapping the traditional way, but found it nearly impossible (10 years ago) to find an affordable way to get supplies here in Japan. At that time, scrapbooking was pretty much unheard of. So I ended up using a lot of non-archival quality supplies. I even made some of my own background papers with plain white paper and colored pencils.

One day while I was looking around an online gallery I found a layout I loved and noticed that some of the credited materials were "digital downloads," whatever that meant! Well, I followed the links and the rest is history. I was introduced to the world of digital scrapbooking.

It didn't happen overnight. It took a lot of research into exactly how to use digital files for scrapbooking. At first I was just printing them out using WORD - seems ridiculous now. Needless to say the results were less than stellar. But I kept reading the forums and finally figured out what programs I needed. Just about that same time, I discovered that our home computer had a trial version of Adobe Photoshop Elements on it. With trial and error I learned to use it and slowly built up my digital library.

There weren't nearly as many digital shops then as there are now. But I was lucky enough to find Jen Wilson's designs then at Scrapbook Bytes. She remains one of my favorite designers.

I scrapped almost exclusively digital for a few years. Then the hybrid boom started with printable projects like mini albums pre-sized to fit right into a Basic Grey or similar chipboard album.

Over this past year, because of the fun I had making hybrid layouts, I rediscovered my love for traditional paper scrapping as well. And now I like to think of myself as an all-around scrapper. Paper, Digital and Hybrid.

Some of my Japanese friends have asked me to introduce them to digital scrapbooking. There aren't many Japanese resources that I have found yet. Handmade is a big thing here, and I have to agree. There's just something special about a handmade scrapbook page. I don't know if its a tactile element or what. But digital is immediate and accessible. No waiting for the order to arrive. No shipping costs. You can resize (or recolor) the elements to fit your layout exactly. No matter how many times you use it, it never runs out. Digital is liberating.

So little by little, I will share with you some great digital resources. Favorite shops, favorite blogs, etc. I hope it will open up new doors for you as well.

First up, I want to share with you a fantastic designer that I just discovered today! Her name is Bren Boone and her designs are for sale at Scrap Orchard. Look at the beautiful goodies I just bought. If you hurry, you can still get in on her sale. Each of these kits only cost me a dollar! Time is running out though. So hurry!

ほとんどの友達は私がデジタルスクラップブッキングのほう が好きだと分かると思います。10年前 、スクラップを始めた時に、日本ではスクラップブッキングの事はまだ全然流行っていなかっ た。材料が無くてほとんどの用品がアメリカから注文したり、自分の台紙も作ったり、色んな 材料を使いました。

ある日 オンラインギャラリーで気に入ったのレイアウトを見て、材料は”デジタル”のが書 いてありました。何だろうと思いました。調べたら新しいスクラップ世界に入りました。

デ ジタルキットを買って、ワードを使って印刷しました。今は考えてみると笑っちゃうね。ゆっ くり調べながら少しずつデジタルの使い方を学びました。それで、 Adobe Photoshop Elements は家のパソコンにすでにインストールされてた事を気が付いたら、それも間違えながら使い方を実習で学びました。どんどん好きなデジタルオンラインショップ を見つけて色んなキットを買ってデジタルページを作り始めた。

二年間ぐらいデジタルスクラップしかやらなかったです。それで、ハイブリッ ドスクラップが流行り始めたです。ハイブリッドと言うとのは両方のスクラップ仕方を使って作品が出来るの意味です。Basic GreyやMaya Roadなどのミニアルバムに合うページセットも2年前ぐらいからデジタルショップで売り出しています。そのページセットを買って、自分の写真を入れて、 印刷する。ミニーアルバム台紙に付けって、お花やボタンやリボンなどをはり付けって、完成します。ハイブリッドスクラップはとっても簡単だし楽しいです。 ハイブリッドをやってみたら、Traditional スクラップブッキングまたやりたくなりました。今、3種類ともやっています。デジタルだけ、Traditional、とハイブリッド。

日 本のお友達はデジタルスクラップブッキングについて教えてもらいたいと言っていました。私は日本のデジタルスクラップブッキングの事があんまり聞いたこと がないです。まだ Traditional　スクラップが多いと思いますが、ちょっとデジタルも流行ってきているの気がします。デジタルスクラップはどこにいってもダウン ロードがすぐ出来るし、送料費かからないし、ストックは売り切りこともないですね。何回使っても無くならないです。すごく良いことだと思います。

少しづつデジタルスクラップブッキングの世界を紹介したいと思います。好きな店、ブロッグ、デザイナーも。良かったら、見てください。

Overflowing with photos

A lot of the layouts I make have SO many photos. In the interest of album space, I try to keep most of my layouts to single pages, but even so some layouts fill two pages with photos. Its a struggle for me to make a balanced layout with so many photos. I love templates. They just make scrapping easier. So easy to use, so versatile. And I have some idea of how my page will end up even from the very start.

My struggle is this: how do you make a layout with 20+ photos, add some fun accents, and still keep the focus on the photos. How do you put so many photos side by side, but keep them separate from the next. Sometimes I'm not very satisfied with the results. Seems to be that my favorite layouts are the ones with fewer decorations. But not adding fun elements also leaves me feeling empty.

With each layout we want to tell a story, don't we. Whether with photos alone, with journaling, or with accents. Most times its a combination of all. So... I guess that's what defines our individual scrapping style. How we choose to showcase our photos.

I've been working on my son's kindergarten days album. Also making some pages with older photos. I'm about 90% satisfied with these layouts. Not perfect, but good enough.

私 はよく写真が多いレイアウトを作ります。出来るだけシングルページを作るけど、たまにダブルページでも写真だらけになります。どうやってバランスの良い、 写真の枚数が多いページを作れるでしょうか？その場合にはスケッチ、またテンプレートを使うのが好きです。かなり楽になります。最初から大体どんなページ が出来るのが分かるのもあります。

ただ、20枚以上写真にアクセントを加えるとめざわりしないページを作るのが難しいと思います。加えすぎるとやはり写真が見えなくなります。アクセントが足りないとなかなか満足しない。

写真だけでも、ジャーナリングやアクセントを加えても、ページを作る時にその乗せる写真について語りたいでしょう。どうやってその写真を引き立たす、どんな風にその話を語るのが結局自分のスクラップスタイルを表す。

息子の幼稚園アルバムも作り続けています。いつものように何年前からの写真もスクラップしています。90％ぐらい満足です。完璧のページじゃないけど、満足。
